Salt Lake City Area

Snowbird and Alta both have lodging fit for all types of travelers. Alta is set more for the die hard ski bum that is going to hit the slopes all day, eat and sleep type of vacation. Snowbird on the other hand has better restaurant choices, The Cliff Spa, bars, the tram to do some site seeing and much wider range of accommodations better fit for families. Solitude has most of the lodging accessible to travelers wanting to stay in Big Cottonwood Canyon. Solitude has 3 different complexes and some individual units spread throughout the area. The Village was where the movie "The Grinch" was filmed.... That's right Whoville Village. Great atmosphere! The perfect place for some solitude!

Solitude and Brighton Mountain Resorts

Solitude has most the lodging in Big Cottonwood Canyon. The Mountain Resorts are not as big or maybe as well known for the famous Utah Powder but believe me they resorts to check out for some of the best snow you will ever ski and access great easy access to back county skiing for the thrill seekers or powder hounds like myself.

Snowbird Mountain Resort/ Alta Ski Resort

Alta is one of the few last Mountain Resorts that does not allow snowboarding so if you are a rider you may want to head next door to Snowbird Mountain Resort. Both Snowbird and Alta are well known world wide for the Greatest Snow on Earth! Averaging over 550 inches a year puts both of these mountains on any avid skiers bucket list. From the SLC Airport you are about 35 to 45 minutes away depending on the time of day. I highly recommend a Four Wheel Drive if renting a vehicle.
