Located on the eastern side of Dauphin Island, the Audubon Bird Sanctuary is a 164-acre island stop for many migratory birds, as it is often the first land they encounter when crossing the Gulf of Mexico. Established in 1961, the sanctuary features a variety of landforms, including a freshwater lake, swamp, pine forest, and dunes.
