Today this 240 seat intimate theater, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, is home to the Sheridan Arts Foundation and has become a non-profit venue benefiting a number of charitable organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of America. Some of today’s top performers from Dudley Moore and Carol Burnett to Patrick Stewart and Frederica von Stade have performed at the Sheridan Opera House to benefit the Foundation and its educational programs. Since 1999, the historic Sheridan Opera House has been home to the SAF Young People’s Theater, a diverse and flourishing center for young thespians, enrolling more than 200 children between the ages of 2 and 18 each year. The Sheridan Arts Foundation has awarded more than $100,000 in scholarship awards to Telluride’s youth since the program’s inception. Additionally all tuition prices are subsidized to keep them affordable for all families.
