Detailed Information

The Chancellorsville Visitor Center was built in 1963 as part of the Mission 66 Project to improve National Park Service sites by the time of the 50th anniversary of the Service in 1966. It houses information about the Battle of Chancellorsville, considered Lee’s greatest victory, where he divided his army in the face of the superior forces of the Army of the Potomac, led by General Joseph Hooker, and sent Stonewall Jackson on a successful, surprise flanking attack.
